Femme City Choir is an all-genders, queer and trans* centred femme-fabulous singing extravaganza. We sing from September to June, this year having one mid-year show and one end of year show, our new annual Femme-stravaganza. The choir is a community choir, with singers of all levels, and is non-auditioned. Femme City Choir will be on hiatus after their April 2016 shows. Thank you so much to all the incredible femmes and femme allies who’ve supported us, sang with us, and helped us create community.
About the Directors:
Lau and Kate have been singing together in sweet femme harmony since they were 13 year old awkward queers-to-be living in small town BC. They have lived on unceded Coast Salish land for the past 8 years and have been passionately invested in organizing and creating inclusive and celebratory artistic projects all along the way. You may have seen them around the community, almost always together, on the dance floor, on stage, or near the snack table.
Lau is known by many as a sequin-clad organizing wizard, with ample experience as a community organizer within queer communities and specifically as a youth worker, working with queer and trans* youth. Lau has been singing her whole life, and is pleased as punch to be organizing within a project that celebrates music and femmes, two of her fav things of all time. Kate has wandered her way through youth as a musician and snazzy-outfit enthusiast, and has ended up with a whole mish-mash of performance, teaching, and directing experience in various community artistic projects. Kate is so jazzed to be able to take a lifetime of theory, practicing and 9am lectures on boring composers and use it for something so exciting and inspiring as this choir. Together, Kate and Lau are passionate about Femme City Choir, and are excited to share it with the community, as members, allies, supporters or listeners.
Femme City Choir is grateful to work with Britannia Community Services Centre Society, who provide us with our awesome rehearsal space!
